Giving In
By Joy Lynn Clark January 5, 2022 After meeting my new friends that helped me open up my locker, I also met a boy. He helped me with my locker from time to time and we grew close fast. When I wasn’t with my girls, I hung out with this boy. At home I had a cable box and a landline with my own phone number. I talked to this dude all the time. For some reason, everything seems so hard. The guy and I went to the fall dance. It was pretty cool. We just stuck with each other though. It seemed as if I didn’t even know the…

The Department Store
January 1, 2022 By Joy Lynn Clark Viacom opened a department store in Chicago on Michigan Avenue. My step niece and I applied. Strangely, they drug tested-by hair sample. Anyhow, we were hired. A future classmate of mine, my step niece, and I. My classmate was in another department and my step niece and I were in Paramount pictures. We attended our Charlton Heston training and I went on about Ben Hur’s chariot on our sales floor. We sold movie memorabilia. We even had a red carpet. The Locker
By Joy Lynn Clark December 30, 2021 Like I said before, the beginning of high school sucked. I spent the summer trapped in our tiny rental and I thought that all sorts of rumors are flying around about me. I don’t even know why. To make matters worse, I couldn’t seem to remember my locker combination and I started being late for class all the time. Although many of my old friends from middle school were here now, I got a bunch of new ones. I went to heart but, all of the girls by my locker went to Parker. They were nice and started helping me open my locker.…

The summer before high school
By Joy Lynn Clark December 29, 2021 I graduated from middle school feeling like a rockstar. Dad and my stepmom sat us down and said, “dad’s getting a promotion. We will be in the next tax bracket so we will have to build a new house.” I was like wow, “dad is chief”. Our home was sold quickly and we had to move to a rental. The builder told us that it should only take a couple of months. We looked at several places including a hotel which is what I wanted. They had an indoor pool and I can totally eat sandwiches and drink sodas all day. My stepmother…

career moves while in college
December 28, 2021 By Joy Lynn Clark After my job with the phone company I went through several positions quickly. Next was the Furrier that was cool but I just wasn’t that interested in fighting with these old ladies to make commissions. Some Nice business women were willing to allow me to sell them suits. On the other hand, all hell broke loose if I even attempted to sell a fur. So seriously on the, “fur floor” I could assist and tidy things up but I never got the commission. Since this job is mostly made of commission, I just didn’t make enough. Next, I did office work for a…
