The Recession

The Recession

By Joy Lynn Clark

10/8/2016

When I was finished with school, I had some big dreams.  The funny part was, I was seeing them right before my eyes like that priceless heirloom you can see but not touch at the museum.  There it was, my multimedia studio, my music career, everything within reach and nothing that I can grasp.

I sent my resume everywhere.  I had plenty of experience because I worked in my industry before I went to school.

During the same time hip-hop was having another theme, “the great drought”.  In agriculture there was a real drought, jobs were scarce yet everyone seemed ok but me (lol who else should I worry about?).  in addition, the lake was at it’s lowest levels.

I did not know what a recession was.  In hindsight, I was feeling it very deeply with my career.

This is Friday Knight.  Fresh out of school.  I was popular but I was angry. I should have been doing green screen or something.

Drought  part 1

We in a drought this year

Even the lake’s too low

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

Unemployment’s high

And stocks is low

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

Sitting on trey deuce

What you telling me for?

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

I ain’t got nowhere to live

I’m damn near homeless Joe

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

I ain’t thin cause I work out

I’m broke and I hustle

Cats lie about the struggle

Sound soft like snuggle

Been off the block too long

Phoney ass songs

And every body in club dance along

Like the grimy shit you talk

Is just so fucking fun

I’ll  never love this ghetto shit

But I’ll respect it

When I talk about the life

Put it in perspective

Cause people shouldn’t have to

Live their life like this

I got pain in my brain

And I know about the basis

I can’t find a job

And my man’s fighting cases

Probably get evicted

On the first of the month

With all of my equipment

Up in somebody’s trunk

But I’m still the flyest bitch

I’m just down on my luck

I need to get rich quick

Cause my bill’s piling up

And don’t tell me about your ice

Unless you giving it up

Think a bitch think twice

When she’s down on her luck

We in a drought this year

Even the lake’s too low

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

Unemployment’s high

And stocks is low

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

Sitting on trey deuce

What you telling me for?

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho

I ain’t got nowhere to live

I’m damn near homeless Joe

Watch your flossy glossy flows

Get you licked fasho
