Exploring Education

By Joy Lynn Clark

As an honor student at city College I was invited to attend a two week session for students who are interested in pursuing a career in education. In addition, after completion of the course, it counts as, “teacher credits”.

I wasn’t all the way sure about becoming a teacher but I did want to visit this university.

All of us candidates boarded the charter bus and headed to the very large university campus that was an hour and a half to two hours away.

When we arrived, we got our own rooms and a tour of the campus. This campus was so big that you have to take a bus to class.

I also met some cool kids on campus. We played a couple rounds on multiplayer and I hit their bong and then headed back to my room because I have to study.

In class, I met a really cool instructor who doesn’t seem much older. Boy is her name familiar. “Just call me Rolanda” she says. Just like that politician from the B2K show from back in high school.

I shyly asked her about this and it was true. Next, she explains about the courses that I will need and the credits required for an education degree. She even outlined some of the incentives for coming to this university.

In addition, I had other courses involving which age groups that I would like to teach. Early childhood, secondary, post secondary. I am not into little kids so I start seriously considering post secondary which would mean graduate school.

This is a lot to think about but, my aunt is always going on about how underpaid that she is. I would really have to Love this to make such a sacrifice!
