I had positions in retail, temporary, contract, on campus, and then finally the big box retailer that I ended up loving.     My Heart

    By Joy Lynn Clark 8/23/2024 I’ve always enjoyed coming from the south suburbs into the city. My parents grew up a block away from each other and I always got a chance to see both sets of my grandparents. When I moved in with my dad and stepmother we would either come up by the interstate or we would simply ride straight up Halsted Street.  On Papi’s side we’d head to Saint Helena’s for church on Sunday morning and on Pawpaw’s side we would go to church at Trinity. I always loved to beg my favorite aunt to take me to the Purple Cow for ice cream Sundaes and candy.…

    The god of quickness

    By Joy Lynn Clark 11/9/2021 Patience is probably a virtue: but I love when duty is swift. Grandma and grandpa on the other side were Catholics. I like to rap fast, I like Dance music and I even was a sprinter in track. So swiftness is also a virtue in my book. We go through the same thing with the Catholics as the protestants but, the Catholics are timely and on schedule. The protestants will go on and on. If it’s good we will sing on – forever. Grandma would press my hair straight and help me dress – but more quickly. There is no Sunday school for me to…
