The Maiz Land (Corn Maze)

As all kids do, from time to time I got in trouble.  I started leaving out.  It really wasn’t running away because I wasn’t planning on moving somewhere. Where we lived in the burbs, it was like the last suburb before the country.  This particular day I was extremely upset and felt that I was being treated unfairly.  I took a very long walk.  I walked so far I got out to the farmland.  It was in the middle of the wintertime so I walked through the cornfields.  I actually ran into a heard of deer.  We all froze and stared at eachother for what seemed like forever, my feet were freezing because I left out with no socks.  I was by the creek.

They keep on saying

They ain’t playing

That they won’t let me live

I know how it is

I will not stake you

I’ll just plant for my kid

Welcome to the maiz land

Where I stand and view herds of deer

Might think it’s fake

Like we not from the lake

But my fam is from right here

Needed to sow

And I needed to grow

Cause in the corn maze

I never get lost

I’ve had these ears

Throughout the years

Like the crows

Come and bite them off

Wandered in the snow

And I did not know

If the land would let me live

Then I saw the herd

And they did not move

So something’s got to give

Welcome to the maiz land

Where I stand and view herds of deer

Might think it’s fake

Like we not from the lake

But my fam is from right here

Needed to sow

And I needed to grow

Cause in the corn maze

I never get lost

I’ve had these ears

Throughout the years

Like the crows

Come and bite them off

Could it have been my old name

I ascended as a child

Somehow I got lots of tame

And I ended up buck wild

Needed to sow

And I needed to grow

Cause in the corn maze

I never get lost

I’ve had these ears

Throughout the years

Like the crows

Come and bite them off

I’ve been searching high and low

So be quiet or you’ll

Scare it away

If you hear the hunters

On the other side

Then you never quite caught

The game

Welcome to the maiz land

Where I stand and view herds of deer

Might think it’s fake

Like we not from the lake

But my fam is from right here

Needed to sow

And I needed to grow

Cause in the corn maze

I never get lost

I’ve had these ears

Throughout the years

Like the crows

Come and bite them off
